HOLLIDAYSBURG, PA – Due to growing complaints from Hollidaysburg residents, the Hollidaysburg Borough Planning Commission is adopting a goal to rename the local neighborhood. The former borough was established in 1841, named after civil engineer John Gay, and was then absorbed into the borough of Hollidaysburg in 1924.
Within the past few months, a growing number of grievances have been aimed towards the neighborhood. Despite the community’s history, many locals are allegedly discontented with the neighborhood’s “suggestive” title. Several citizens have offered to share their perspectives on the matter:
“I don’t care what they do down there, just get it out of my face.” –Homer Sheffield
“I hate to think of a world where when my children get on the bus to go to school, I have
to worry about them passing the Gaysport sign each morning. We need to think of the
children.” –Amanda Yost
“They already have a whole month, why do they need an entire Goddamn
neighborhood?” –Gus Miller
The Borough Council will be further discussing the topic at their next council meeting, which will be held at the Hollidaysburg Municipal Building and open to the public. Hollidaysburg citizens will be invited to weigh in on the matter as well as provide suggestions for the updated nomenclature of the neighborhood.
