Hollidaysburg, Pa. – This summer, a new attraction will be arriving in downtown Hollidaysburg in a new, renovated studio to encourage locals to get up and moving.
The “Climb to Heaven Pole Dancing Troupe,” hosted by Blair county native, Mary Abundance, also known under the pseudonym “Myrrh,” is set to open its doors to residents this summer. Abundance has been training in the art of pole for twenty years, and has been working to intertwine the art form with her Christian faith since she started.
When one enters Abundance’s studio, they can expect the melodic hymns of Christian soft pop fill the air as eyes scan biblical portraits adorn the walls, as well as the rustic, handmade plaque reading “Song of Songs 4:5” sitting delicately above the entrance. Abundance slowly spins around her pole in the center of the room, dressed in a flowy, ecru-colored toga, humming along to the light hymns dancing throughout the air. It is truly an enlightening, immersive experience.
Abundance says her passion for pole stems from the strong community aspect, which inspired her to invite her friends from her bible study to dance with her. Abundance’s faith-based dance sessions were an instant success, leading her to establish the “Climb to Heaven Pole Dancing Troupe,” which travels around Pennsylvania in order to spread their message. “Both the church and the pole really bring us closer together and help us build trust. It’s really a beautiful thing.” shared one member of the troupe, “And who said we can’t spread the gospel while also spreading our legs?”
Abundance was eager to share her mission with the Bulletin, “When you climb the pole, you are climbing up closer into the arms of God himself. The longer the pole, the closer to heaven.” She continued, “A lot of people don’t realize that a huge chunk of pole dancing is actually rooted in Christianity. Some popular moves include the Angel, the Fish, and even the Crucifix.”
Additionally, Abundance’s itinerary for the classes include one hour and 30 minutes of guided dance, one hour of bible study, 30 minutes of unofficial, judgement-free confession, a group prayer, and a final 30 minute free-style performance section. Abundance plans on offering classes at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, all at the low, bargain cost of $120.00 per session. Abundance also mentioned that customers may receive a 30% off coupon if they refer a friend.
For her final word, Abundance wanted to share this: “If you are a good, honest, faithful woman, this is the right community for you. Together, we can spread out our arms, and our legs, to embrace Jesus. John 13:7.”
